Eyelid Surgery in Stockton

As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and begins to sag. The skin on the face is particularly affected because it is exposed to the sun, airborne pollutants, and other damaging factors. The skin around the eyes is probably the most sensitive part of the body, and over time the eyelids often begin to droop, grow puffy, and develop bags that give the impression of age or fatigue. Sagging eyelids can even begin to obstruct peripheral vision. Correcting droopy eyelids can take years off a person’s appearance, making them appear healthier, more youthful and alert, and better rested. Heritage Eye, Skin & Laser Center offers a procedure, cosmetic eyelid surgery Stockton (clinical term is blepharoplasty) that is a safe, effective surgical procedure to correct droopy, baggy eyelids.

Eyelid surgery is an excellent option for most people who are concerned about the appearance of drooping, baggy eyelids. The best way to determine if you are a candidate for cosmetic eyelid surgery is to schedule an appointment to meet with a doctor here at Heritage Eye, Skin & Laser Center for an eyelid surgery consultation.  At that time, our doctors will assess the droopiness, discuss how it interferes with your lifestyle, and make a recommendation. If the droopiness is bad enough to cause interference with your vision, the procedure may even be covered by your medical insurance.

The Procedure

The procedure is generally performed under local anesthesia.  During the procedure, excess skin, fat, and tissue from the eyelids is trimmed away  and the incision is concealed in the natural folds of the eye.

Recovery

Incisions can take several weeks to heal completely, but most patients are able to return to work within 2-10 days of surgery. It is important to avoid heavy lifting, exercise, and other activities that increase blood flow to the eyes until healing is complete. It is normal to experience some swelling, redness, and bruising, especially during the first week of recovery. The eyes may feel tight and dry during this period, but eye drops and ointment typically help with these symptoms. It is also a good idea to rest the eyes, if these symptoms exist, and limiting activities such as reading and watching television. After healing, any residual scarring is typically well hidden and the results are very natural-looking and attractive.
